How is Abdominoplasty Performed?
Abdominoplasty, or a tummy tuck, is a surgical procedure that produces dramatic changes to the profile and look of your abdominal area. Many people consider a tummy tuck to redefine the abdomen after multiple pregnancies or massive weight loss. Either of these experiences can leave behind stretched skin that has lost its elasticity, and abdominal muscles that have lost tone due to excessive expansion.
The tummy tuck procedure generally involves an incision from one hipbone to the other. Excess fat is removed, as well as excess skin. The navel must be repositioned, as well, so Dr. Chhatre makes an incision around it to separate it from the abdominal wall, then resets it in the proper place after the rest of the abdomen is restructured.
In addition to removing extra skin, Dr. Chhatre will sew together abdominal muscles that have been separated by the body changes brought about by pregnancy or weight gain. The result is a tight, toned abdomen that can give you the self-confidence to wear a swimsuit again.
If your problem areas lie mostly beneath the navel, you might also consider a mini tummy tuck. A less extensive procedure, a mini tummy tuck tightens and reconstructs the lower abdomen. A consultation with Dr. Chhatre will help you decide what procedure is best for you. All abdominoplasty procedures are performed in the privacy of our Ambulatory Surgical Center, giving you the best possible atmosphere for recovery.
